Ottawa Shield 2014 - Results

We had some success at the 2014 edition of the Ottawa Shield.

Antony finished with a Silver medal and Vadim with a Bronze in the Veteran's Men's Sabre event.

Vadim Silver Foil

Vadim won a Silver medal in the Veteran's Men's Foil event.

Daniel came just out of the medals with an excellent 5th place in the Men's Open Foil. Vadim finished 8th in the same event.

Women's foil

Pauline, Meia and Monique gained some more experience in the tough Senior Women's foil competition.

Great work guys!

Podium Sweep at Anjou Veterans!

Kanata Fencing sent three fencers to compete at the 2nd AAA in Anjou this past weekend and all three finished on the podium!!

Sabre Podium

Bob won Gold, Antony won Silver and Vadim took home Bronze! A fantastic result for Kanata!

Vadim Bronze Foil

Vadim also competed in the Veteran Foil event and won Bronze. Here he is proudly displaying his Kanata Fencing jacket to the crowd!

Kanata also entered a Team Sabre event with Boris substituting for Vadim. However they did not fair as well finishing in 2nd place.

Carleton Invitational 2014

Kanata sent six separate teams to compete in Carleton University's annual Invitational Team Tournament.

Women's Foil

Our Women's Foil Team was well represented by Veronique, Paulina, Meia and Monique. This was the first time the girls fenced together as a team and they performed fantastically finishing 7th overall ahead of such teams as the hosts Carleton University, Queen's and Macmaster! Congratulations girls!

The men's foil team of Daniel, Vadim, Fernando and Brandon - also their first time fencing as a team - finished in a respectable 10th spot.

The men's Epee team of Dawson, Antony and Alex fought to an 11th place finish.

Men's Sabre

Our biggest effort was with 3 separate men's sabre teams. Kanata 'A' team was made up of Kuzey, Arthur and Jonathan. 'B' team was Gary, Zigmunt and Fernando and the 'C' team consisted of Antony, Vadim, Bob and Pat. The sabre event drew a very large and strong group of fencers with 16 teams competing. All of Kanata's sabre teams finished in the top group with a 5-6-7 finish for teams A-B-C!

None of our teams won medals at this year's Carleton Invitational's but we all had a fantastic time! A big thank you to Carleton University Fencing Club for hosting a great event!

KANATA Fencing Socks

We’re thinking of getting Kanata Team fencing socks. They would be fabricated in Kanata ‘blue’ with the word ‘KANATA’ written vertically down the outside of each sock (in white lettering). At the bottom would be 3-crossed fencing weapons (as in the photograph).

 Fencing Socks

  • Made of polypropylene.
  • Polypropylene wicks the moisture away from the body.
  • The socks stay up on the leg and contain 10% elastic thread.
  • Bottom of foot cushioned
  • Ribbing in arch and ankle for added support
  • Fold down cuff

  • Youth: younger children
  • Intermediate: ladies shoe size 5-10 / men’s shoe size 4½-8
  • Adult: ladies shoe size 10-12 / men’s shoe size 8-12
  • XL: above size 12

We can only place the order when we have 12-pairs of a single size. We expect the cost to be $15 - $20, dependent upon how many pairs we order. If you’re interested, let Coach Jon know how many pairs and what size. Once we have a tally, we’ll let you know what the final cost will be before we order.

In Kingston the K-Town Challenge was held at the Kingston Fencing Club. Vadim Reznikov made the trip and was rewarded with a Silver medal in Veteran sabre and a Bronze medal in Veteran foil!

In Montreal there was the first AAA tournament of the year and Daniel Manyoki earned a Bronze medal against a very tough field in foil! In the Veteran's category an unfortunate circumstance pitted Antony Roberts against Bob Rennick in the direct elimination, meaning that only one of our fencers would advance to the medal round. It was a very close match that saw Antony defeat Bob 10-9! Antony went on to with the Silver medal!

Congratulations to all our fencers! Well done!
