The Kanata Fencing Club is happy to give people who have never tried fencing (or if you did fence a long time ago) the chance to learn the basics of the sport in a friendly atmosphere. We aim to make this a practical experience, which you can then develop further in our friendly club. We run three sessions every year starting in September, January and April. There are group lessons Tuesday nights and an open sparring night on Fridays. Individual lessons are also offered on Fridays.

New Courses

Courses start in late September, early January and April. The duration is three months per session. Newcomers are welcome at anytime and will be integrated with other club members. Places are limited and allocated on a first come, first served basis.

Group lessons are on Tuesdays from 6:15pm to 7:15pm for children (10 to 13 years) and 7:15pm to 9pm for teens and adults. All ages open fencing and individual lessons from 8pm to 9pm.

On Fridays we have a sparring night for all ages. Individual lessons are also available on Friday nights. The Friday class is from 6pm to 9pm.

Equipment is available, however, you will need to wear trousers that will stretch a bit - tracksuit bottoms are ideal - gym shoes - and a T-shirt. You will also want to bring something to drink, as fencing can be thirsty work.

Club fees are $200 per session. Individual lessons are $10/15 minutes. If you need to borrow club equipment there is a $20 per session rental fee as well as a $80 refundable deposit (let us know in advance if we need to bring you equipment). If you're interested in purchasing your own equipment, feel free to contact us for recommendations on what to get and where.

Membership with the CFF (Canadian Fencing Federation) is reqired. You can register at Basic beginner memberships are aproximately $35/year. Please email or bring a copy of your valid CFF number (C11-1111) before your first night.
